Compliance news that matters to you Tips Corner Top 3 things to get started on your Export Compliance program; 1. Get management commitment, preferably a “C” level executive, and have them put it in writing. It can say something to the effect of, it is the companies polices and procedures to comply with all U.S. Export Administration Regulations. 2. Lookup and verify that you are using an up-to-date and accurate Schedule-B number (HS) and verify there are no current export licenses required for your export. Create a product database, and list the proper Schedule-B # and ECCN –Export Control Classification Number (if applicable), next to each product. 3. Put it in writing. Any good export compliance program must be in writing. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just list who is responsible and what are your internal export procedures. As of Feb 3rd, 2007 – US Customs has updated 83 out of the 97 HTS chapters in the US harmonized tariff. There are over 240 changes in the tariff.
